INTRODUCTION: The Mass is the central ceremony of the Catholic church, believed to have been founded by Christ himself, and reverenced by the Catholic community for centuries. With it's reputation for sanctity and supposed divine origins, it is no wonder that the Mass has been both duplicated and imitated throughout time. Ancient Alchemists wrote alchemical versions of it. Aliester Crowley has written 2 of his own Masses based on it, the Mass of the Gnostic Catholic Church and a Mass of the Phoenix. Anton LaVey includes his version of the Mass in the book entitled THE SATANIC RITUALS. It has even been said that the ceremony of the Hilter Youth meetings closely resembled the Mass, with the Nazi flag taking the revered place of the sacrament.

The occult importance of the Mass has been both defined and heightened by the Roman Catholic Church. The Catholics themselves have utilized it for all kinds of magical purposes. Masses said to bring a favorable change in the weather, for protection, healing, to obtain children or for the mercy of the dead can all be found in the Gelasian Sacramentary, written in Rome around the sixth century. In the Grimoire of Honorius, the priest relies heavily on the Mass for protection and strength. The Mass of the Holy Ghost, the Mass for Pentecost, and the Mass of the Angels are just 3 contained in a ritual for summoning the Spirits of Darkness.

The following version of the Black Mass is based on the book entitled MISSA NIGER: LA MESSE NOIRE. To obtain a copy of this book, please contact Realist Publications, PO Box 1627, Paraparaumu, New Zealand. I have edited this version of its rather "theatrical" content, and have adhered to the actual ritual itself. Some personal notes are included regarding ancient practices, including those which (hopefully) have not made it into the modern versions of this Mass. Please feel free to EMAIL ME with any corrections, comments, cynacism or cute remarks.
